🔥

Gas Boiler Replacement

Taking out a worn, uneconomical or condemned gas boiler and fitting a new condensing model, sized to the home's heat loss and hot water demand, with a new flue, condensate route, filter and commissioning paperwork.

£2,000–£4,500

Hot Water Cylinder Replacement

Replacing a leaking, scaled-up or slow-to-heat hot water cylinder with a new vented or unvented (mains pressure) cylinder, including immersion heaters, valves, discharge pipework and the cylinder thermostat.

£800–£3,000

🎛️

Heating Controls Upgrade

Bringing old timers, dial thermostats and faulty zone valves up to date — programmable or smart room thermostats, a new programmer, thermostatic radiator valves, a cylinder stat and separate heating zones where the pipework allows.

£150–£1,200

🧲

Magnetic Filter Installation

Fitting an inline magnetic system filter on the return pipe to the boiler so circulating iron oxide (magnetite) is caught before it reaches the heat exchanger and pump, with inhibitor topped up and the filter shown to the homeowner.

£120–£300

🩺

Boiler Breakdown Diagnosis

A call-out to find out why a boiler has stopped — reading fault codes, testing ignition, fans, sensors, pressure and controls — so you know whether it is a quick fix, a part to order or a boiler not worth repairing.

£80–£450

💧

Central Heating Leak Detection

Tracing a hidden leak that keeps dropping boiler pressure or staining ceilings — pressure-drop tests, thermal imaging, acoustic listening and tracer gas — then opening up only the section of floor or wall needed to repair it.

£150–£750

Find out what your heating job involves before choosing a price

A boiler that loses pressure, a cylinder that leaks and a timer that ignores its settings can all leave you wondering whom to call. Start with what you have noticed. An engineer can work out whether the problem needs a repair, a system change or new equipment; you do not need to diagnose it before sending an enquiry.

Boiler Quotes is a consumer matching service for homes across the UK. Submit one enquiry and we can look for up to four independent heating businesses that cover your postcode and handle the work. They contact you directly and prepare their own quotations. The number of responses depends on availability and suitability, so four quotes are not guaranteed and there may be no match.

Boilers, stored hot water and the heating circuit

  • Gas Boiler Replacement — Taking out a worn, uneconomical or condemned gas boiler and fitting a new condensing model, sized to the home's heat loss and hot water demand, with a new flue, condensate route, filter and commissioning paperwork.
  • Hot Water Cylinder Replacement — Replacing a leaking, scaled-up or slow-to-heat hot water cylinder with a new vented or unvented (mains pressure) cylinder, including immersion heaters, valves, discharge pipework and the cylinder thermostat.
  • Heating Controls Upgrade — Bringing old timers, dial thermostats and faulty zone valves up to date — programmable or smart room thermostats, a new programmer, thermostatic radiator valves, a cylinder stat and separate heating zones where the pipework allows.
  • Magnetic Filter Installation — Fitting an inline magnetic system filter on the return pipe to the boiler so circulating iron oxide (magnetite) is caught before it reaches the heat exchanger and pump, with inhibitor topped up and the filter shown to the homeowner.
  • Boiler Breakdown Diagnosis — A call-out to find out why a boiler has stopped — reading fault codes, testing ignition, fans, sensors, pressure and controls — so you know whether it is a quick fix, a part to order or a boiler not worth repairing.
  • Central Heating Leak Detection — Tracing a hidden leak that keeps dropping boiler pressure or staining ceilings — pressure-drop tests, thermal imaging, acoustic listening and tracer gas — then opening up only the section of floor or wall needed to repair it.

The smaller details can change the right solution

A combi heats tap water on demand, while system and regular boilers usually work with a cylinder. Changing from one arrangement to another affects water flow, pipework and space. Mention whether you have loft tanks and how many bathrooms are used together, rather than asking only for a particular boiler output.

Heating performance also depends on the rest of the system. A clean, a suitable filter and correctly set controls can be part of a boiler installation. They are not a cure for every fault: a cold radiator can have air, a valve problem or poor balancing, and pressure loss may come from a relief valve or expansion vessel rather than a hidden pipe leak.

From one enquiry to a decision

  1. Add your postcode, contact details and a description of the symptoms or planned work.
  2. Suitable independent businesses may get in touch, ask questions and arrange an assessment where needed.
  3. Compare their written scope, equipment, exclusions, warranty conditions and total payable before choosing.

Homeowners pay nothing to use the matching service and can decline every quotation. An engineer may charge for a diagnostic visit or a detailed investigation; agree that cost before attendance. Boiler Quotes makes the introduction, while the chosen business supplies the work and contracts directly with you.

Check competence for the particular job

Businesses joining the network are asked for relevant insurance details and references. For gas work, check the engineer's current registration and the categories on their ID card; HSE guidance on checking a Gas Safe engineer explains how. Water-side work alone does not automatically require Gas Safe registration. Unvented cylinders need appropriate unvented hot water competence, and electrical controls need someone competent in the wiring involved.

Compliance requirements differ between England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Ask the installer which notification and commissioning documents apply at your address. A warranty can also have registration and servicing conditions, so keep the handover records.

Prepare useful details, without opening anything

Write down the boiler model and any fault code visible on the display. Note when the problem occurs, whether heating or hot water still works and any pressure change. Photos of accessible pipework, cupboard space or a stain can help, but leave casings, wiring covers and safety valves alone. Tell the engineer about tenancy permissions, access restrictions and any existing warranty or service cover.

When a quotation is not the next step

Gas smells, suspected carbon monoxide or an alarm sounding require immediate safety action. Get to a safe place and follow HSE gas and carbon monoxide advice. Use the emergency service appropriate to your location and fuel supply. Boiler Quotes cannot provide emergency attendance or promise a same-day visit.

Start with your postcode

Use the free enquiry form for the service that best fits your need. Cylinder, control, filter and water-side leak work may suit different heat sources, subject to the engineer's assessment. The boiler replacement category on this site is for gas appliances; identify the fuel clearly, including LPG, so the required competence can be checked.
